How One Mosquito Controls Your Yard

The fun in the sun axiom about summer only applies if you’re actually having a good time and not inflicted with hoards of bugs and irritating itches. Sometimes it seems like even one stray mosquito controls the fate of your barbeque. That’s because nothing is more infuriating than doing everything you can to prevent the airborne vampires from coming, but they do anyways. Fortunately, there’s now an array of high-tech solutions on the market that blow the old school tactics away.Spraying yourself with an acrid chemical solution to keep bugs away is off-putting to say the least. It’s also obsolete. Online retailers specializing in pest management sell simple handheld devices that actually create a blanket of insecticide in the air around your backyard deck. These work by heating up butane to release allethrin, an insect repellent, into the air covering a fifteen square foot area. It knocks out other insects in the yard too so you don’t have to worry about flies or ants getting in your beer.

Another effective way to stop mosquitoes from descending on your yard is to target the places where they breed. Adult and larvae alike hang out near water sources or places where moisture collects. Looking for higher concentrations near your pool or gutters is a good place to start. Products called dunks are solidified insecticide that kill the grownups drinking off the surface and wipes out the eggs resting at the bottom. Taking out places where they can multiply is the surest way to lower their overall numbers.
